S’mores Maker
Asmore is an electric, wall-powered, countertop s’mores maker designed to toast marshmallows and create a visual flame effect. The device also has an ambient light mode.
Industrial Design
The design of this device is inspired by an abstracted campfire, with an X shape of logs and a simple center flame column. The user toasts their marshmallows over this column, where a heater is hidden.
After testing electric heater options and learning it may take up to 3 minutes to fully toast a marshmallow, we explored skewer stands (instead of having the user hold it the entire time).
UI-UX Design
Since this is primarily a children’s product, a lot of attention was given to creating safe and intuitive user interactions and experiences.
Mechanical Engineering
After selecting and testing different internal components to achieve the desired functionality, 3D CAD was created based on the original design’s form.
Prototyping
Multiple rounds of Alpha Prototypes were designed and created to evaluate features and communicate the product’s intent.
Electrical & Software Engineering
The lighting feature on this product was engineered to have a flickering flame-like effect, using a flexible LED panel and custom PCB/firmware, as well as a temperature sensor to trigger the effect when the device has heated up fully.
